Observation- Different perspectives

Observation “Observation involves broadly selecting, recording and encoding behavior for empirical aims of description or development of the theory” A.K. Singh “Tests, Measurements and Research Methods in Behavioural Sciences”. Observation is an important tool for understanding the world and making sense of our experiences. It allows us to collect data and gather evidence, which can then be used to support hypotheses and theories. We can say it’s a process of gathering information through our senses, such as sight, taste, touch, sound, and smell. Observations can be made in a variety of contexts, such as scientific experiments, social interactions, and everyday experiences. Observation can also help us to identify patterns, trends, and relationships, and to develop insights and understanding about the world around us. The practice of scientific observation has a long history, and it is difficult to attribute its origins to a single individual or culture. Observation has been an i...

Scion-Change is in the choice you make

An education capable of saving humanity is no small undertaking; it involves the spiritual development of man, the enhancement of his value as an individual, and the preparation of young people to understand the times in which they live. — Dr. Maria Montessori, Education and Peace   Why do we humans judge another human based on our past experiences ??  As human beings, we rely on our past experiences to navigate our present and future experiences. Our brains are wired to make sense of new information by comparing it to what we already know. Therefore, when we encounter new people or situations, our brains automatically draw upon our past experiences to help us form opinions and judgments. When we judge someone based on our past experiences, we are essentially using those experiences as a reference point to make sense of the new person we are encountering. For example, if we have had negative experiences with a particular type of person in the past, we may be more likely to jud...

Child's play or work

Image
Everyone knows a child wants to play. We are also getting to know that through play children learn. But everyone might not agree that a child loves to play but a purpose in the play is what a child looks at. The child likes to be challenged, not high or low, not too much not too less. It's just RIGHT  I would like to think from the perspective of schools. Some schools of thought say children need free play after a continuous grilling in the school.  Where some schools of thought say we integrate play and learning. children play and learn.  Let's think about what our Educationists said in the past. We follow them in one or the other ways, especially in early childhood development. Jean Piaget, 1973  identified play as contributing to cognitive development. Problem-solving, creative thinking, initiative, discovery, and imagination. Vygotsky, 1967, argued that "play provides children with opportunities to expand their world.   Vygotsky added that play d...

Scion - Evolve

Scion- Juggle between Success & Failures-  Children and Adults “Every great cause is born from repeated failures and from imperfect achievements” – Dr. Maria Montessori.   Children take success and failures equally. They work again and again to achieve if they fail at something. but The conducive environment is the one, for the child who takes these failures as a learning experience that doesn't judge, and adults here don't operate based on their prejudices. What happens if we keep correcting the child and disturb his natural way of learning?  We all grew like that only know, is the common question and comment we hear from many parents and caretakers.  Let's think of a caterpillar who is trying hard to come out of a cocoon. what happens if someone helps with a lot of sympathies? Are we not disturbing life itself????  Every life grows at his/her own pace of development. Expecting them to fit into what we(Adults)  expect is again an interferen...

A patch of History-Evolve

Image
How Open are we????   Raising a child who was not learning in conventional ways was making me angry. That anger was my helplessness. The moment I realized, there was a gift called Google. We had a computer too Luckily. I was just hooked to a computer. Found ideas, tried, experimented. Gave up at times. Consoled me for not being helpful. Raised, failed, got back up again fell again ..... went on... I didn't know to even talk to people. Still learning😅 but went on talking to people just to find out what works for my child. A person who did not like the act of calling people and checking in went on calling 2 to 3 calls per day. Bike ride of at least 50 km per day to check out schools.   Not at all a great thing but an evolution for a Mother!!!!! A mother is born the moment child is born. Things worked. Though we are not perfect . 2022 made us so strong. . We have become a little Nonjudgemental, empathetic, kind, etc, etc. but in 2002 scenario was different If childre...
